A leading pay-TV operator asked us to consider the financial implications to third-party channels of carriage on its platform: |
The Question: Third party channels pay the operator in order to be carried on the platform. How valuable is this form of distribution to the channels? How much should they be charged?
What Did We Do? We developed detailed models to calculate how much revenue channels generate through their presence on the platform. The models were based on a range of factors including household infrastructure forecasts, channel audience profiles and inconvenience factors.
What Happened? We forecasted the value of ITV, Channel 4 and five being on the platform. This information was used to set the rate card for third party channels. |
| Other recent modelling projects: We developed take-up and usage forecast models in support of two of the BBC’s Public Value Test applications to the BBC Trust: iPlayer and Local TV. For Ofcom we built a model to estimate the spill-over benefit to ITV1’s digital ad revenues from their incumbent analogue position. |
